Kyanite

Info: Kyanite crystalizes in long crystals, with good fission. It has ofren blue coloration, other colours like white or green are rare and the tone of the colour is not homogenic. Kyanite is transparent to translucent with pearl or glassy luster.

How to recognize: The hardess of kyanite is differend from each side - parallel sides have up to 7,5 hardness, perpendicular to the crystals the hardness is only 4 and provides good fission of the crystal. Kyanite cannot be dissolved in acids or melted by fire.

Found: Kyanite was found in the Ticine (Switzerland), Zillertal (Austria), Morbihan (France), Minas Gerais (Brazil), Machacos (Kenya), Massacusetts, Virginia, Connecticut, North Carolina (USA), Kalkata (India) and in Australia. In Czech Republic kyanite was found in Běstvina, Kutná Hora, Bečov and Vrtěžíř.

Used for: Kyanite is used for porcelane isolators in construction and sometimes in jewlery.
