Info: Octaedrical and rombododecadrical crystals of gold are rare. Gold is usually found in forms of grain, nugget, leaves and wired agregates. Almost every gold found in nature is combined with silver or other minerals.
How to recognize: Gold is transition metal, compared to other metals gold is chemically least reactive. Gold can be dissolved only in aqua regia (mixture of nitric and hydrochloric acid).
Found: The biggest gold deposits in history were found in California (1948) and Australia (1951), where solid fragments up to thirty kilograms were found. Known deposits were in Kolodike, on the border of Kanada and Aliaska. The most famous gold deposit is still working today in Witwatersrand (South Africa). In Czech Republic remains of deposits are found in Povltaví, Rudné, Příbramsko, in various places in Českomoravská vysočina, Krkonoše and Jeseník.
