Azurite

Info: Azurite crystalizes in monoclinic crystals in massive, prismatic, stalactitic and tabular crystal forms. Those crystals often grow together in beautiful crystal clusters. Sometimes azurite creates pseudomorphoses on cuprite and other minerals. Azurite is dark blue, it have glass shine and often is translucent, sometimes even transparent. Azurite is relativelly heavy, fragile and not very hard. It can be easly scratched by a knife.

How to recognize: Because of the typicall outher signs, azurite is very hard to be assumed for other mineral. It can be dissolved in every diluted acid, and emits sound in dissolution. After that, when the liquid from the dissolved azurite and the acid is burned by gas flame it emits flame with green colour. Azurite is not very continual, it slowly transforms into malachite.

Found: Azurite was found in France, USA, Greece and Nambia. It can also be found in Germany and Italy. In Czech Republic azurite is found in copper deposits in Český brod and Podkrkonoší.
