Info: Apatite is not very hard mineral, it has glassy luster, and it can be found in various colours, but only blue, purple and green are used in jewelery. Apatite is fragile and it can be found in microscopic grain crystals. This kryptocrystalic form is called kolofanite. Apatite can be found in various magmatic or methamorphic rocks, bigger crystals are found usually inside pegmatite rocks. It can contain a large amount of phosphor.
How to recognize: Apatite is often mistaken with another minerals, mainly with tourmaline or beryl.
Found: Apatite was found in Barma, Sri Lanka, Brasil, Canada, Russia, Mexico, Tunisia, st. Gothard massive (Switzerland), Lahn and Harz (Germany).
Used for: Apatite is used as a source of phosphorus, and for the creation of fertilizer. Good crystals are used in jewelery.
