Ankerite

Info: Ankerite crystalizes in trigonal crystals, which grow together. Most common foundings of ankerite are in forms of whole or grain masses, or whole agregates. It can be found in white, grey, yellow or brown colour. The intensity of his colour is dependable on the mass of iron that the mineral contains. Ankerite is fragile, translucent, it have glass to pearl shine. When exposed to air, it oxidates fast, and darkens.

How to recognize: Ankerite is dissolved in heated hydrochloric acid.

Found: Ankerite was found in France, USA, Columbia and Nambia. It can also be found in Germany and Austria. In Czech Republic ankerite is found in hydrothermal masses.
