Anglesite

Info: Anglesite crystals are similar to the crystals of baryte and celestine. As a lead mineral, the anglesite has a fine luster, from greasy to diamond like. This mineral often is colourless and transparent, but colour variation of anglesite are treasured. Anglesite is rarely found in colourations of green, purple or copper colour. Sometimes anglesite can be white and opaque, or even black, containing a small amounts of galenite. Anglesite is not very hard, but it's heavy, fragile and fissionable.

How to recognize: In contrary to celesite, anglesite is very slowly disolved into nitric acid. To differ with baryte, angelsite is easly melted into lead ball.

Found: Anglesite was found in Tsumeb (Nambia), Maroko, Italy, Anglesey (GB), Linares (Spain) and Missouri (USA).

Used for: In the industry as lead ore.
